Presentation Report

The report on transregional relations over Taiwan from the movement of people to the war years 1895-1965 was presented. He pointed out that Taiwan has historically experienced repeated trans-regional migration, and then presented the modern and contemporary history of Taiwan in East Asia, focusing not only on relations among nations such as China, Japan, and the U.S., but also on the micro aspects of wars and colonization of Southeast Asia and Oceania, human migration, family ties, and the role of language in these relations. The report focused on the micro aspects of human mobility, family ties and the role of language during wars and colonization in Southeast Asia and Oceania as well as between countries. The report also pointed out the role of language in creating networks of people in war and unstable environments, where ethnic mixing was seen through repeated migration, and where multiple languages became possible due to the expansion of families.
