Report

To provide an opportunity for contemplating about correcting the excesses of capitalism and considering the future direction of society and prosperity, we organized a screening and viewing of the film "Gentle Revolution Odayaka no Kakumei" [2017 / Japan / 100 minutes]. Following the screening, the film's director, Satoshi Watanabe, explained the background of the film's production, and Yoshihiko Wada, a professor at Doshisha University's Faculty of Economics, gave comments on the film. Afterwards, using these explanations and comments as a basis, students from Doshisha University joined us in an exchange of opinions regarding the potential for energy self-governance leveraging the characteristics of the region to transform social structures. During the discussion, it was suggested that seemingly unrelated aspects such as traditional culture and faith can create bonds within communities, contributing significantly to the foundation of self-governance. In the end, the audience also participated in discussions on the above points. The importance of realizing a decentralized society where each region autonomously operates a sustainable, circular system was reaffirmed. The total number of participants was 41.
